Social Security Payment Schedule 2026–2027: Exact Dates for Every Birth-Date Group
At a glance: Here is the Social Security payment schedule for November 2026, December 2026 and all of 2027, taken date-for-date from the Social Security Administration's own published calendars (Publication No. 05-10031). The three November facts that trip people up: if your birth date falls on the 1st–10th, your November payment arrives Tuesday, November 10 — not Wednesday the 11th, because the 11th is Veterans Day; no SSI payment lands in November at all, because November's SSI was paid early, on Friday, October 30; and the 3.6% COLA first shows up in the payments dated December 31, 2026 (SSI and the 3rd-of-the-month group) and in the January Wednesday checks. Every date below carries its weekday.
A payment schedule sounds like the simplest page on the internet — until your month has a federal holiday in the middle of it, your SSI arrives in the wrong month, or a news story prints a date that Social Security's own calendar contradicts. (That has already happened for November: at least one major outlet is telling the 1st–10th group to expect money on November 11, a day when federal payments do not go out.) Below: the rest of 2026, the complete 2027 master table, the rule that explains every early payment — and the one date in this whole calendar that is still a projection, clearly marked.
November 2026: every payment date
November is the month this schedule earns its keep, because two of its five payment dates are not the dates the usual pattern suggests.
| If you receive | Your November 2026 payment arrives |
|---|---|
| SSI (November benefit) | Friday, October 30, 2026 — paid early; no SSI deposit lands in November |
| Social Security on the 3rd (started before May 1997, or you receive both Social Security and SSI) | Tuesday, November 3 |
| Social Security, birth date 1st–10th | Tuesday, November 10 — moved from Wednesday the 11th |
| Social Security, birth date 11th–20th | Wednesday, November 18 |
| Social Security, birth date 21st–31st | Wednesday, November 25 |
The trap is the middle row. The 1st–10th group is normally paid on the second Wednesday — and the second Wednesday of November 2026 is the 11th. But November 11 is Veterans Day, a federal holiday, and Social Security does not issue payments on federal holidays. SSA's official 2026 calendar moves the payment one business day earlier, to Tuesday, November 10. If you read November 11 elsewhere, you are reading the un-shifted pattern. Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 26) touches nothing — it falls the day after the month's last payment.
Why there is no SSI check in November
SSI is normally paid on the 1st of the month. November 1, 2026 is a Sunday, so SSA paid November's SSI on the last business day before it — Friday, October 30. The consequence surprises people every time it happens: two SSI deposits in October (October 1 and October 30), and none in November. Nothing is missing, nothing was cut, and the October 30 deposit is not a bonus — it is November's money, arriving two days early.
Do the gap math, because this is where budgets break: from the October 30 deposit, the next SSI payment is Tuesday, December 1 — a 32-day stretch, the longest SSI gap of the fall. If SSI is your main income, November is the month to stretch deliberately rather than discover the gap in the third week. (The free printable calendar at the end of this article marks every one of these early-payment months for 2027, so the pattern never catches you twice.)
December 2026: every payment date
December runs on the normal pattern — with one large exception at the very end of the month.
| If you receive | Your December 2026 payment arrives |
|---|---|
| SSI (December benefit) | Tuesday, December 1 |
| Social Security on the 3rd | Thursday, December 3 |
| Social Security, birth date 1st–10th | Wednesday, December 9 |
| Social Security, birth date 11th–20th | Wednesday, December 16 |
| Social Security, birth date 21st–31st | Wednesday, December 23 |
| SSI (January 2027 benefit) — and Social Security on the 3rd (January payment) | Thursday, December 31 — paid early; see below |
Christmas Day (Friday, December 25) shifts nothing — no payment is scheduled on it. The date to circle is December 31. January 1, 2027 is a federal holiday and January 3 is a Sunday, so two January payments land on New Year's Eve instead: the January SSI payment and the January payment for the 3rd-of-the-month group. Both arrive with the 3.6% cost-of-living increase already in them — SSA states plainly that increased SSI payments begin on December 31, 2026. If a deposit larger than usual appears on December 31, that is the raise arriving early, not an error and not an overpayment. Our Social Security COLA 2027 net-check guide works out what that raise is actually worth after the Medicare Part B premium comes out.
Which group are you in? The five payment groups
Every date in this article belongs to one of five groups. Social Security's own calendar legend defines them:
- SSI — paid on the 1st of the month the payment is for.
- Social Security on the 3rd — if you received Social Security before May 1997, or you receive both Social Security and SSI, your Social Security is paid on the 3rd (and your SSI on the 1st, as two separate deposits).
- Birth date 1st–10th — the second Wednesday.
- Birth date 11th–20th — the third Wednesday.
- Birth date 21st–31st — the fourth Wednesday.
Three refinements worth knowing. First, the Wednesday is chosen by the birth date of the worker whose earnings record the benefit is paid on — SSA's own wording is that the Wednesday depends "generally on the insured worker's birthday." On your own record, that is your birthday; on a spousal or survivor record, generally your spouse's or late spouse's — one reason couples can be paid on different Wednesdays and both be right. Second, a monthly payment is the benefit for the month before: the deposit that arrives in January is December's benefit, which is why the COLA — effective with December's benefit — first appears in January's payments. Third, everyone is paid electronically, by direct deposit or the Direct Express card, so "payment date" means the date the money is scheduled to be available, not a mail date.

Why some months pay early: the weekend-and-holiday rule
One rule explains every surprise in this calendar: when a scheduled payment date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday, the payment moves to the business day before it — never the day after. Payments only ever move earlier. Apply the rule and the whole calendar falls out:
- The 1st and the 3rd move often, because they land on weekends regularly — five times for the 3rd in the November 2026–December 2027 window alone.
- The Wednesdays almost never move, because a Wednesday is rarely a holiday. November 2026 is the exception that proves it: Veterans Day landed on the second Wednesday. In 2027, Veterans Day falls on a Thursday (November 11), so the 1st–10th group pays on Wednesday, November 10, 2027, exactly on pattern — no shift.
- SSI moves the most, because a 1st-of-the-month that falls on a weekend drags the payment into the previous month — creating the two-deposits-one-month, none-the-next pattern.
For SSI households, here are the months to plan around: two deposits in October 2026 (1st and 30th), April 2027 (1st and 30th), July 2027 (1st and 30th) and December 2027 (1st and 30th — the second one projected, per the note under the master table); no deposit at all in November 2026, January 2027, May 2027 and August 2027. The single longest SSI stretch in the whole calendar runs from Friday, July 30 to Wednesday, September 1, 2027 — 33 days.
The complete 2027 payment schedule
This is the master table — every 2027 payment date for every group, from SSA's official 2027 calendar (Publication No. 05-10031). Dates in bold are moved earlier than the group's usual pattern by the weekend-and-holiday rule. One further date — a projection — is explained under the table.

Beyond the table — one projected date: January 2028's SSI is projected for Thursday, December 30, 2027 — because January 1, 2028 is a Saturday whose federal observance falls on Friday, December 31, the payment moves one business day further back. SSA has not yet published its 2028 calendar, so this single date is a projection from the rule (it matches how SSA handled the identical 2021–22 year-end) and will be confirmed here when the 2028 calendar appears.
Read the January row carefully — it is the most misread row of the year. Both the SSI column and the 3rd column point backwards into December 2026: those are January's payments, made early. If you are in either group, you will not receive another deposit in January until February 1 (SSI) or February 3. And note what the Wednesday columns confirm: in all of 2027, not one Wednesday payment moves. Every 2027 surprise belongs to the 1st and the 3rd.
January 2027: the COLA lands
The new year brings the year's biggest number. Social Security's 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment — announced October 14, 2026 — begins with the benefits payable in January 2027, covering nearly 72 million Social Security beneficiaries, with increased SSI payments to about 7.3 million people beginning December 31, 2026 (SSA's figures). In payment-date terms: the 3rd-group and SSI see the raise on December 31; the Wednesday groups see it on January 13, 20 and 27. The raise is calculated on your gross benefit, before the Medicare Part B premium is deducted — which is why the deposit rises by less than 3.6%. Social Security COLA 2027 Is 3.6% — But Your Real Raise Is Smaller works the net math on three check sizes, including what happens when CMS announces the official 2027 premium in November. And if the turn of the year also has you re-shopping a Medicare plan before the December 7 deadline, our Medicare Open Enrollment 2026 mistakes guide is the companion read.
If your payment doesn't arrive
Work these steps in order — most "missing" payments are a shifted date or a slow bank posting, not a lost benefit:
- Confirm your date first. Check the tables above for your group, including the early-payment shifts. A payment that "should" have come on the 1st or a Wednesday may have been scheduled earlier — or your group's date may simply be later in the month than you remembered.
- Allow three additional mailing days. That instruction is printed on SSA's own payment calendar: if you don't receive your payment on the expected date, allow three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security.
- For direct deposit, check with your bank. SSA's guidance for a missing electronic payment is to contact your financial institution first — the deposit may have been received but not yet posted to your account.
- Then contact Social Security. If the money still hasn't arrived, call 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or contact your local Social Security office. Keep your payment date and bank details handy.
One caution: Social Security will never call to threaten that your payment has been "stopped" unless you pay a fee or share banking details. If that call comes, hang up and dial the number above yourself.
Frequently asked questions
When will I get my Social Security check in November 2026?
It depends on your group. SSI for November was paid Friday, October 30. The 3rd-of-the-month group is paid Tuesday, November 3. By birth date: 1st–10th on Tuesday, November 10, 11th–20th on Wednesday, November 18, and 21st–31st on Wednesday, November 25.
Why is there no SSI payment in November 2026?
Because November 1 is a Sunday. SSI pays on the 1st, or the business day before when the 1st is a weekend or holiday — so November's payment arrived Friday, October 30. October therefore had two SSI deposits and November has none. The next SSI payment after October 30 is December 1, a 32-day gap.
Is my November payment on the 10th or the 11th?
The 10th — if your birth date is on the 1st–10th. The second Wednesday of November 2026 is the 11th, but that is Veterans Day, and SSA's official calendar moves the payment to Tuesday, November 10. Some news stories printed the 11th by copying the usual pattern; SSA's calendar is the document that governs your deposit.
Why did I get two SSI payments in one month?
You didn't get extra money — you got next month's payment early. When the 1st falls on a weekend or holiday, that month's SSI is paid on the last business day of the month before. It happens in April 2027 (April 1 and April 30), July 2027 (July 1 and July 30) and December 2027 (December 1 and December 30, the second projected). The month that follows each double has no SSI deposit of its own.
Whose birthday sets my payment day if I receive spousal or survivor benefits?
Generally, the birthday of the worker whose record the benefit is paid on — SSA's cyclical-payment explainer phrases the Wednesday rule as depending on "the insured worker's birthday." On your own record, your birthday governs; on a spouse's or late spouse's record, theirs does. That is why two people in one household can be paid on different Wednesdays.
When does the 3.6% COLA show up in my payment?
With the payments dated December 31, 2026 for SSI and the 3rd-of-the-month group, and with the January 2027 Wednesday payments (January 13, 20 and 27) for everyone else. It is automatic — nothing to apply for. The increase is figured on your gross benefit, so after the Part B premium your deposit rises by less than 3.6%; see our COLA 2027 net-check guide for the worked math.
What is the longest gap between SSI payments in 2027?
33 days — from Friday, July 30 (August's payment, moved up because August 1 is a Sunday) to Wednesday, September 1. The November 2026 gap (October 30 to December 1) runs 32 days.
